I started No Gluten Gal to explore gluten sensitivity and gluten intolerance. The journal section will be free flowing in terms of my ramblings. Besides assembling gluten sensitivity resources, I wanna to gripe! I want to vent about how confusing wellness can be. For example, I know I’m sensitive to gluten (proof from bloodwork and symptoms), but does that mean never eating gluten again? If I dabble from time to time, how much is too much? Do enzymes work to digest gluten better? I don’t have Celiac disease, but I don’t want to put a known enemy into my body. Or do I sometimes? Kind of like how alcohol or sugar aren’t healthy, but I choose to indulge sometimes. Since I cut out gluten, about 9 months ago, I have 100% noticed my body operating more efficiently – zero digestive issues and about 5-8 pounds lighter. My hope is that after a long period of time “cleansing” without gluten, having a little bit here and there won’t be a big deal. I’d like to discover best practices for my physical and mental health. For example, maybe a daily probiotic and having sourdough only might be a winning combo.
I will say this from personal experience: getting older means you don’t bounce back like you used to. Digestion is more sensitive and excess inflammation imposed on your body by eating crappy means you are setting yourself up to age poorly. Inflammation can rear its ugly head in the way of arthritis, Alzheimers, cancers…all of it. At least that’s what people are saying nowadays. Multiple studies have been done on the role of food, inflammation and aging and I plan on staying on top of the latest research.
Also, I was motivated to start No Gluten Gal because I like creating; I like being productive; I like expressing. I also write music and making this site feels like that same crazy energy. (In a good way) 🙂
