About Oat Flour
Oat flour is a naturally gluten-free flour made by finely grinding whole oats into a soft, powdery texture. It adds a mild, slightly sweet flavor to baked goods and helps create a tender crumb in cookies, muffins, pancakes, and quick breads.
Compared to many gluten-free flours, oat flour contains more fiber and protein, making it a popular choice for adding nutrition and structure to recipes. It works especially well when combined with other gluten-free flours, helping create baked goods that are soft and moist rather than dry or crumbly.
For consistent results, I like using Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Oat Flour, which is finely milled and easy to find in most grocery stores.
